ServiceM8 Alternatives: An Honest Look at Your Options
If you are comparing ServiceM8 against the other job management tools, here is how they actually differ, from someone who sets these up for a living.
People searching for ServiceM8 alternatives are usually in one of two places. Either shopping before they commit, or already on ServiceM8 with something not fitting. Both are fair, and the honest answer is different depending on which one you are.
I am Canada's only ServiceM8 Certified Partner, so I set trade businesses up on ServiceM8 for a living. I have a side and you should know it. I have also told people to go elsewhere when the fit was wrong, because a tool your crew will not use is worse than no tool. Here is the comparison I would actually give you.
Two questions that settle it for most people
Before any feature list, answer these two. They eliminate more options than everything else combined.
How do you want to pay as the crew grows? ServiceM8 prices on how many jobs you run each month and includes unlimited users. Most of the alternatives here price per user. A growing crew with steady job volume usually comes out ahead on per-job pricing, because hiring doesn't add to the bill. A small team pushing very high job volume can find per-user pricing kinder. Count your people and your monthly jobs before you compare a single feature.
How complicated is a typical job? Quote, schedule, do, invoice, and almost every tool here handles it, so pick on price and feel. Add real specifics though, compliance forms, multi-visit work, maintenance agreements, and the field narrows fast. Depth starts to matter more than simplicity.
What changed on Android in September 2026
For years this page carried a third question, about which phones your team carries, because the full ServiceM8 app was iPhone and iPad only and Android users got ServiceM8 Lite. ServiceM8 15 changed that. The Android app is now the full app, and ServiceM8's own help centre says it has "almost all the same functionality as the iOS app", including whole-team schedules, payments, proposals and staff messaging.
Four features are still iPhone and iPad only: Room Scan and AR measuring, drawing diagrams, editing or filling PDFs from an attachment preview, and the full automatic in-camera photo tagging. Unless your work leans on one of those, the phone in your pocket no longer rules ServiceM8 out, and a lot of what you'll read elsewhere, including "ServiceM8 is Apple only", is out of date.
How the main options actually differ
Jobber. The most common comparison, and a genuinely good tool. Full app on both Android and Apple, simpler out of the box, faster to self-onboard, priced per user in tiers. If your job flow is straightforward and you want to self-onboard, this is the strongest alternative and I will say so plainly. Full head-to-head here: ServiceM8 vs Jobber. And if you're choosing between Jobber and its closest rival, here's Jobber vs Housecall Pro.
Tradify. Closest in spirit to ServiceM8 for small trade businesses, and it runs on desktop, tablet, iPhone and Android. Clean, quick to learn, strong at the quote-to-invoice run, with a free trial to prove it. The difference that shows up on the bill is per-user pricing: every person you add costs you more. Where ServiceM8 pulls ahead is depth of customization and how far you can extend it once the basics are running. Full head-to-head, with the pricing worked through for a four-person crew: ServiceM8 vs Tradify.
Commusoft. Built for larger field service operations, and they say so themselves: designed for businesses with six or more staff. Heavier scheduling, multiple engineers, service contracts, compliance-driven trades like gas and HVAC. Priced per user, quote-only, so it is not a casual sign-up. A two-van company will find it more than it needs. A real dispatch load makes it worth the conversation.
FieldHive. The newer, simpler option, aimed at trade businesses from one person up to about fifty. Leads, quotes, jobs and invoices in one place without much ceremony. Still running off spreadsheets and paper? This is the shortest path off them. The catch is that simple has a ceiling, and work with real specifics hits it sooner than you expect.
Where ServiceM8 earns its place
Being specific rather than promotional, because a vague pitch helps nobody:
- Pricing on job volume rather than per seat, with unlimited users. Adding crew does not add cost, which changes the maths for a growing team.
- Depth where the work has specifics. Custom forms, job cards, and quoting that flows into invoicing bend to fit how you actually operate.
- Recurring and service-plan work sits comfortably here.
- It extends. Beyond the built-in tools, ServiceM8 can be wired into the rest of your systems so the busywork between steps runs on its own. This is where most of my work happens and it is the part that a feature comparison never shows you.
When I tell people to look elsewhere
A business that wants to be running this week with no setup help and no appetite for customization. An operation big enough to need real dispatch and compliance tooling. In either case something else on this list will serve you better, and I would rather tell you now than after you have moved your data.
The part the comparison charts miss
Almost every one of these tools will handle your quotes, your scheduling, and your invoices. Where trade businesses actually lose time is in the gaps between those steps and in the systems that do not talk to each other. The job tool holds the job, the accounting package holds the money, and someone in the office retypes between them every week.
That gap is not solved by picking a different tool from this list. It is solved by setting whichever tool you choose up properly and connecting it to the rest of what you run. Choosing well matters. Setting it up well matters more.
How to decide without guessing
Answer the two questions at the top, which usually leaves you with two candidates. Start a free trial of both and run three real jobs through each, end to end, including the invoice. Not a demo, real work. You will know within a week, and you will know for reasons that come from your business rather than from a marketing page.
If ServiceM8 turns out to be your fit, you can start a ServiceM8 trial through my partner link and get 30% off your first 6 months once you subscribe. If you are moving off one of the others, here is what a migration actually involves, and if you would rather have the account built properly from the start, that is what a full ServiceM8 setup covers.
Plenty of the businesses I talk to end up somewhere else on this list, and I sleep fine. The tool you pick matters less than whether it gets set up around how you actually work. A great platform configured badly loses to a simple one configured properly, every time.
Common questions
The ones that come up most often when people are narrowing this down:
What is the best ServiceM8 alternative?
It depends on two things: how you want to pay as your crew grows and how complicated your jobs are. Jobber is the strongest all-round alternative. Tradify is the closest match for small trade businesses that want something simple. Commusoft suits larger operations of six or more staff. FieldHive suits someone coming off spreadsheets who wants the simplest possible start. There is no single best, only the best fit for how you work.
Does ServiceM8 work on Android?
Yes. Since ServiceM8 15, released in September 2026, the Android app is the full app and replaces ServiceM8 Lite. ServiceM8's own help centre says it has almost all the same functionality as the iOS app: whole-team schedules, quotes, invoices, payments and deposits, proposals, forms, document scanning and staff messaging. Four things are still iPhone and iPad only: Room Scan and AR measuring, drawing diagrams, editing or filling PDFs from an attachment preview, and the full automatic in-camera photo tagging. It needs Android 8.0 or later.
Is ServiceM8 cheaper than the alternatives?
It charges differently rather than simply cheaper. ServiceM8 prices on job volume with unlimited users, while most alternatives price per user. A growing crew with steady job volume often comes out ahead on ServiceM8 because adding people does not add cost. A small team running very high job volume can find per-user pricing kinder. Run your own numbers.
Should I switch job management software or fix my current setup?
Switch if the tool genuinely cannot do what your business needs, for example a feature your work depends on that it doesn't have. Fix the setup if the tool is fine but nobody configured it properly, which is the more common situation. Moving to a new tool that is also set up badly just moves the problem.
